Construction of the MultiKulti bioreactor

The goal is to build a mobile, fully automated, pressure-loaded, continuous reactor that can simulate as many habitats as possible. For this purpose, a new type of modular bioreactor concept was developed that links sensitive biological monitoring methods (live sequencing, flow cytometry, ATP measurement) with the regulation of the physical and chemical reactor parameters.

  • modular reactor system with a transportable reactor unit for disturbance-free, low-contamination use at the sampling location and fully automated operation in the laboratory
  • pressure and corrosion-resistant reactor system consisting of a central main reactor and side reactors for enrichment, manipulation, etc.
  • hardware and software for the controlling unit with the help of biological measured parameters (microorganism composition, cell count and metabolic activity)
  • separate reaction spaces for manipulating physical and chemical parameters
